Gematria Chart

Complete reference chart showing letter values for all major gematria systems. Use this chart to manually calculate any word.

What is a Gematria Chart?

A gematria chart is an essential reference tool that shows the numerical value assigned to each letter of the alphabet. In gematria, every letter corresponds to a specific number, and by adding these values together, you can calculate the gematria value of any word or phrase.

Different gematria systems assign different values to letters. This chart displays values for the most popular systems: English Ordinal, Full Reduction, Reverse Ordinal, Jewish (based on Hebrew letter values), and English Extended. Understanding these values is fundamental to practicing gematria and discovering hidden numerical connections between words.

How to Read the Chart

Each row in the chart represents a letter of the English alphabet. The columns show the numerical value of that letter in different gematria systems:

  • English:Standard ordinal position (A=1, B=2, ... Z=26)
  • Reduction:Values reduced to single digits by adding digits together
  • Reverse:Alphabet counted backwards (Z=1, Y=2, ... A=26)
  • Jewish:Hebrew letter values mapped to the English alphabet
  • Extended:Ordinal values multiplied by 6

Tip for memorization: Start with English Ordinal as its the simplest. Once you know a letters position (A=1st, B=2nd, etc.), you automatically know its value.

Using the Chart for Calculations

To calculate the gematria of a word manually using this chart, follow these steps:

Example: Calculate "LOVE" in English Ordinal

  1. Find L in the chart: L = 12
  2. Find O in the chart: O = 15
  3. Find V in the chart: V = 22
  4. Find E in the chart: E = 5
  5. Add all values: 12 + 15 + 22 + 5 = 54

Therefore, "LOVE" has an English Ordinal gematria value of 54.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the gematria values of letters?

In English Ordinal gematria, letters are assigned values from A=1 to Z=26. In Jewish gematria, values follow the Hebrew pattern with A=1, B=2, up to K=10, then L=20, M=30, continuing in tens to S=100, then T=200, U=300, and so on. Each system uses different value assignments, which is why we provide this comprehensive chart covering multiple systems.

How do I calculate gematria manually?

To calculate gematria manually: 1) Choose which system you want to use, 2) Look up each letters value in the chart for that system, 3) Write down each value, 4) Add all the values together. For example, CAT in English Ordinal would be C(3) + A(1) + T(20) = 24. For faster calculations, use our automatic gematria calculator.

Whats the difference between gematria systems?

Each gematria system assigns different numerical values to letters based on different traditions or mathematical principles. English Ordinal uses simple 1-26 values based on alphabetical position. Jewish gematria maps traditional Hebrew letter values to English. Reduction reduces all values to single digits (1-9). Reverse counts backwards from Z=1 to A=26. Extended multiplies ordinal values by 6 for larger numerical patterns.

Why do letter values matter in gematria?

Letter values are the foundation of all gematria calculations. By assigning numerical values to letters, we can calculate the total value of words and phrases. In traditional gematria practice, words that share the same numerical value are believed to have mystical connections or related spiritual meanings. This principle has been used for thousands of years in Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism.
